Synchronicity and Astrology

How is it possible for unrelated events to occur simultaneously? For example, when you think of someone, they happen to be on the other end of the phone. You might hear a song on the radio that you were just thinking about. Sometimes, a particular theme might repeatedly show up throughout the day. All of these phenomena still remain a mystery for the modern human.

We can’t explain random events with supernatural powers, of course. The theory of synchronicity, proposed by Carl Gustav Jung, a colleague of Freud and founder of analytical psychology, sheds light on this darkness. Jung suggests that the simultaneous occurrence of seemingly unrelated events is not a chain of coincidences; rather, the universe is structured in this way. There doesn’t need to be a causal relationship between these seemingly disparate phenomena. Jung terms this theory “synchronicity.”

Jung worked with Nobel laureate quantum physicist Wolfgang Pauli to explain how randomness occurs. He also discussed the concept with Einstein during their lunch meetings. Einstein believed that there was a hidden law in nature that couldn’t be explained by cause and effect relationships. However, it’s true that our current understanding of natural laws can’t explain this fully. It’s worth noting that in the present day, there are scientific studies that explain the synchronicity between the geometric system of the solar system and seismic activities.

While the tidal effects of the full moon on the Earth’s waters can be explained by astronomy and physics, I can sense your skepticism about the connection between the natural movements of a planet millions of kilometers away and events on Earth. However, according to the theory of synchronicity, a specific celestial arrangement can correspond to a specific sequence of events on Earth. Thus, the positioning of Jupiter in Aries and the Sun in Gemini could hold different meanings. Astrology is a product of synchronicity: the alignment of celestial bodies can influence individual personalities or potentials, and sometimes even collective changes. There seems to be an unseen connection between the macrocosm and microcosm; one of the fundamental propositions of hermetic philosophy is “as above, so below,” which is a main tenet of astrology.

There’s synchronization between the cosmos and the Earth. The events that occur in parallel with a person’s birth and the placement of celestial bodies at that moment show a parallelism. None of these elements are each other’s cause and effect. After taking its first breath and entering life, a baby aligns with the qualities of the season and time in which it’s born. This is the working principle of astrology. Carl Gustav Jung reiterated how astrology influences our lives numerous times. He particularly observed that psychological crises in patients often coincided with the transits of Uranus or Saturn, aligning with specific times. In his work “Aion,” Jung also mentions that the appearance of Jesus during the Age of Pisces, coinciding with the Sun’s entry into the Pisces zodiac sign, is an example of synchronicity.

Just look outward with a bit more attention, and you’ll realize that you’re surrounded by a spiral of synchronicity. Astrology works behind what appears to be the surface world, akin to Plato’s allegory of the cave. Understanding your birth chart will help you recognize how cyclic encounters can sometimes be meaningless and sometimes contain profound experiences and lessons.
